Hey Guys,
I’m really interested in how even in the Creator Economy winter, the evolution of venture capital and creators continues to evolve. This means that if you find a niche in the Newsletter Economy, which I sometimes call the peer-recommendation economy, you might one day become the sort of Creator being actually invest in.
That being said, I’m a bit disappointed LinkedIn Newsletters haven’t become more of a thing. They acquired Pulse a long time ago, they could have built out something neat, but instead startups like Substack and beehiiv have forged ahead with a full feature suite of products. What LinkedIn has however is an evolving algorithmic feed and a global network in the hundreds of millions.
According to The Information’s latest piece by Kaya: The Microsoft-owned social network says 53 million people subscribe to 213 million newsletters, an increase in total subscriptions of four times from a year ago, according to a spokesperson. There are about 63,000 newsletters on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn has implemented automated recommendations, so if you visit someone’s profile who has a Newsletter on LinkedIn, you automatically get an invite to subscribe. While it’s crudge compared to the recommendation economy native angle like Beehiiv and Substack, it is definately making them more visible.
LinkedIn Newsletters are useful for social proof, credibility, niche SEO and many other reasons so it’s worth starting one if your substack or beehiiv Newsletters are serious for you. It’s also worth doing LinkedIn posts about your niche to increase visibility. They aren’t just for Business people, they are good for all kinds of Creators and their varied topics.

LinkedIn has actually rolled out a bunch of new features to increase their visibility, but their actual product engineering team working on it is rather small. However for the few Creators that truly exploded in growth on Substack or beehiiv in recent months and years, LinkedIn has what these small startups do not - a large potential audience to tap into.
LinkedIn may be cringe and not quite what it once was, but it’s still easily a top 100 website.
