Mastodon seems to have very high quality content, so don't count it out. I'm looking forward to trying Threads, and especially What's App Channels (for the international audience you've mentioned in the past).

Yes it's a pity Mastodon couldn't keep the momentum, but it's so hard now. I remember Mastodon fondly when it first came out many years ago. The Twitter exodus waves don't seem to amount to much, since there are now so many options that all somewhat look like experiences we've already had.

The Reddit rebellion of recent times is a great example of how social media is bifurcating where companies are at odd seemingly with developers and user-generated-content gatekeepers. It's not as if the Platforms are either a) that entertaining or b) that educational - so it's a bit like online dating, just never really as good as the real thing.

I honestly don't know what it all means for the future. Maybe video is just cannibalizing everything in the end.
