The Journalist Databases Need to Merge with Creator Databases : Muck Rack Funding Raise
The Future of Journalism
Hey Guys,
I have a new theory, the most likely company to acquire Substack is actually Grammarly. So why would they do this? They would build a media empire of indie media journalists.
But today I want to talk about the future of journalism and Muck Rack’s funding. You can see my own profile on Muck Rack here. I’m not verified though since I don’t have professional beats. In the Creator economy it won’t matter.
Grammarly had funding in 2021 that insinuated it was worth $13 Billion, of course that’s no longer the case. They have raised over $400 million, or about 5x the amount of Substack.
Grammarly was funded in 2009, not so long ago. So what does Grammarly, Muck Rack and Substack have to do with each other? They have to do with the future of journalism. In an era where web2 walled gardens are becoming algorithmic and PR echo chambers, the quality of the news has gone downhill and entertainment apps like TikTok are displacing them.
TikTok ‘should be banned in every democracy,’ media mogul says - source.
Substack in a 2023 environment could suffer a lot, with less access to funding and a slowdown just like the advertising industry is seeing in Q3 of 2022.
I’m all for journalistic databases and Creator databases if they help us get gigs. LinkedIn should have done this years ago, but is lazy and too slow to be innovative. So alternatives are popping up.
This as more Substack Creators are finding out that Sponsored Ads are more lucrative than slowing growing paid subscription lists.
