Hey Everyone,

I wanted to talk a bit about Twitter alternatives and the exodus from Twitter. While many journalists are moving to Mastodon, I actually think Post News and Hive Social have a different kind of momentum. Mastodon is very inviting and social, but its decentralized nature means it’s not going to be big enough to be a successor to Twitter.

a16z investing in Post News caught my attention, as the internet is craving an alternative to Twitter, even with the likes of Substack, LinkedIn and other apps getting an influx of new users.

Post News has some similar basic functions to Twitter: you make posts, you like and repost other people’s posts, you follow interesting accounts. And while it’s really struggling with the process of on-boarding new people and building even basic features, I have high hopes for it.

For Creators who cover a niche a bit like an independent journalist, I think Post News has real synergy. For instance, like for Substack Newsletter Creators.

While Hive Social has more momentum for instance on the app store rankings, Post News feels more agnostic and like a clean new interface that most resembles the core features of Twitter.
