What is Substack Chat?
Substack is hoping we are great at community, so its app can grow faster.
Hey Guys,
I noticed that Substack’s Chat iOS launch got a lot of media coverage at TechCrunch, Gizmodo, TheVerge, Observer, Search Engine Journal, XDA-Devs, among others. That’s good to see, since the product feature has a lot of potential. It would at least, if Substack had more readers and there were drastically more writers on Substack! Substack is just a few years old, it’s really not that big.
There was a lot of hype about how Substack is innovating just as Twitter is blowing up. I’ll admit, it was a cute pitch and fun timing. If clumsy PR in fact.
A bit like when you start a LinkedIn Newsletter and it sends a one-time Email to all of your followers if they’d like to join, here’s it’s the same thing. Everyone on your list gets a generic message that you have started Chat in the app, i.e. Substack is trying to get our followers to be first movers in their new app.
I’m an android user, so I find this all premature but interesting.

But going deeper…
Sorry guys I think I’ll have to hold out on testing Substack Chat once it finally comes to the Android app.
