Where Can you Share Substack Newsletters and Posts on Reddit?
Building a bridge between Substack and Reddit is key for writer and Newsletter discoverability (SEO).
I’m not a huge fan of Twitter, which many famous people on Substack have huge followings. But what happens if you are just a humble Newsletter creator without a huge following on Twitter?
Since the discoverability of Substack Newsletters is rather poor in terms or organic SEO the best way to change this is via Reddit.
Unfortunately the current “Substack” of Reddit doesn’t have links to actual work of creators or an active community that boosts them with upvoting (Reddit’s magic sauce), but mostly just discussions.
You can find it here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Substack/
It only has 1,800 members and 7 online at the moment. If you know Reddit, that’s not a great community in terms of size or adoption. That’s also not enough to move the needle for Substack’s domain SEO.
Reddit Could Improve Substack Newsletter Discoverability
The best idea would be for Substack creators to unite on Reddit and build another bridge to a major up and coming platform for the Creator Economy. Reddit is great in this regard since it has a lot of young readers, a high discussion rate and a relatively high click-through rate.
In many ways for the future of Substack’s growth, it would be superior to Twitter. Twitter is great for politics and some mainstream topics, but not discoverability.
After struggling to think of how to solve the problem, my best idea was simply to create a Subreddit where Substack creators could introduce us to their Newsletters and share their work and creations with us on a regular basis.
So today I spent most of the day building it:
I made flairs including many of Substack’s own topics on its front page. Flairs is just what Reddit calls (Tags).
So here are some of the flairs I’ve used on the brand new Subreddit:
Solution
I wanted to create a place where Newsletter creators on Substack could easily share their work and encourage each other and over-time get some traffic from Reddit. Reddit does a terrific job at SEO of the headlines of links on its platform.
To be honest, many internet users I know below 40 will literally Google the topic they want and add “+ Reddit” to improve that they can find with discussion of real people. This is because Google’s home page is not what it once was to find quality and real answers and content to their query.
The problem is of course Substack creators are relatively independent and not likely to be active users of the Reddit platform. I would assume creators on Substack skew female and older than the Millennial and GenZ men that typically hang out on Reddit. This may not be true and be my personal bias, but I doubt it.
If you are curious about my project and want to introduce your Newsletter and share your work on Reddit, here is the URL of the subreddit I have created:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CreatorXEconomy/
Ultimately the Creator Economy is all about the development of the Metaverse, which encompasses Newsletter but is so much more like gaming, live-video, live-radio, NFTs and all other creators online.
That is why I chose something broader like the “Creator Economy” for this subreddit. The Creator Economy name was also already in use on Reddit, again without hardly any development.
I don’t have the means to actively promote the channel, but at least I know something now exists as to what I hoped existed on Reddit: a place for Substack creators to share links to their work.
Currently, it’s just me.

This has given me a good excuse as a passion project to join random Discords related to Substack, and try to explore around the bushes of Substack writing, I've shared as many good Newsletter stories as I could find. But I fear that after a lot of work and just 5 followers (who appear passive) this project will not move the needle or uncover gems of Reddit SEO for writers.
Still if you know someone who might benefit from this, do share:

Any support or sharing your favorite Newsletters or stories would be appreciated.
There's very little organic growth for this pet project, thus far. It's day 1 after all.
Hello, I just created a new community for Substack authors to post their articles, stories and creations to be more easily found on the web. You'd be super welcome to try it out:
